Dr Sravani Sandhya Explains How Skin Fasting Can Heal Your Skin during Ramadan - Aura Skin and Hair Clinic, Visakhapatnam

Is fasting good for health?

Ramadan fasting are mixed, probably because the length of the fast and the weather conditions experienced vary depending on the time of year and the country where the
fast is being observed.

Some of the benefits are

Decrease insulin levels which causes fat burning

The blood levels of growth hormone may increase as much as 5-fold).

Higher levels of this hormone facilitate fat burning and muscle gain, and have numerous other benefits

Short-term fasting actually increases your metabolic rate by 3.6-14%, helping you burn even more calories.

It Can Reduce Insulin Resistance, Lowering Your Risk of Type 2 Diabetes

Can Reduce Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in The Body

When we fast, the cells in the body initiate a cellular waste removal process called autophagy, it may provide protection against several diseases, including cancer and Alzheimer's disease.

How do we eat our way to clean, glowing skin?

Healthy skin requires hydrating Omega 3 fatty acids, B vitamins for collagen and elastin production and trace minerals for repair, protection, and cell regeneration. So its important for them to incorporate leafy greens and fiber to help proliferate healthy gut bacteria and wild fish rich in omega 3s, vitamin D and B vitamins .

What are the best vitamin supplements to take during ramzan?

Skin supplements are usually a group of several vitamins and antioxidants that can enhance the wellbeing of the skin. Some of the most important antioxidants for the skin are vitamin C, E, A, selenium and zinc. Here we would like to suggest oral antioxidants and nutritional supplements to reduce the aging effects on skin and cellular function.

All of these antioxidants reduce the harmful effects of the sun and the process of releasing free radicals that usually harms skin cells. I recommend taking these supplements during ramzan, as you are able to get the benefits of these supplements during the fasting hours.

What is a go-to treatment for skin at Aura Skin and Hair Clinic that every individual should try during the month of Ramadan?

Mesotherapy treatment with microneedling, medifacials are one of the best treatments that can be used during Ramadan as it does not irritate the skin. On the contrary, it nourishes the skin with vitamins and amino acids. It is suitable for all skin types with almost no downtime.

What are the foods we need when we break the fast?

Break your fast slowly by drinking of fluids, choose fluid-rich foods to make sure you are well hydrated for the day ahead and go for starchy foods for energy, choosing high fibre or wholegrain varieties where possible as these can help keep you feeling fuller and can aid digestion, helping to prevent constipation. once the fast is broken, the body can rehydrate and gain energy from the foods and drinks consumed.

Having not eaten for a long period, you may find it helpful to eat slowly when breaking the fast and to start with plenty of fluids and low-fat, fluid-rich foods, while iftar meals are often a time for celebration, with families and friends coming together to break their fasts, it’s important not to go overboard when eating during Ramadan.

Consuming a lot of deep fried, creamy and sweet foods may actually cause you to gain weight during Ramadan. Ramadan can be a good time to make changes to improve the balance of your diet that you can sustain in the longer term, I encourage my patients to load up on what I call the Fab Four at every meal: protein, fat, fiber, and greens.

Fab Four meals turn off hunger hormones, squelch inflammation, and provide the body with the perfect complete meal of essential nutrients. The Fab Four is the light structure for eating healthy without “eat" or "do not eat" lists. Simply look at your plate and ask yourself, "Do I have all four components?" Protein ups collagen, muscle tone, and metabolism; fat benefits hormones, skin, and cellular health; fiber promotes gut microbiome proliferation and detoxification; and greens (or veggies deep in color) provide cancer and antiinflammatory phytonutrients.

This combination is a fail safe for my who are fasting or patients who are on diet they can stop fighting not to eat and instead mix their nutrients and easily go 4-6 hours without thinking of food .

Below are some examples:

Oats - these are whole grains and you could choose porridge, which will also provide fluids as it’s made with milk or water, muesli with milk or yogurt or overnight oats. You could experiment with fresh or dried fruit, nuts or seeds as toppings.

High fibre breakfast cereals – these provide plenty of fibre and are often fortified with vitamins and minerals, providing extra nutrients. Because they are consumed with milk, you also get fluid and nutrients like calcium, iodine and b vitamins from the milk.

Starchy foods like rice, or couscous – you could try rice pudding with fruit or experiment with couscous or other grains with dairy or fruit. If you go for savoury dishes at suhoor then it's a good idea make sure these are not too salty or they may make you very thirsty during
the fast.

Yogurt – this can be a good food to include at suhoor as it provides nutrients like protein, calcium, iodine and b vitamins and also contains fluid. You could combine it with cereal and fruit as in the examples above.

Breads – go for wholegrain options as these provide more fibre, for example wholemeal toast or chapattis.Avoid combining bread with salty foods like hard cheese, or preserved meats. You could try nut butters (without added salt), soft cheese, or banana. As bread is
fairly dry, make sure you drink plenty of water or other fluids alongside or you could have fluid-rich foods such as a lentil soup, which is a traditional food at ramzan in some countries.

Now photoshop your skin to look flawless in real time with this skin care beauty wand by Opte - Aura Skin & Hair Clinic, Visakhapatnam

CES 2019 may have the answer to our biggest skin care problems with the Opté, a premium beauty device that treats your skin imperfections while covering them flawlessly.

Opte is a system based upon digital technology, and it works to create the most perfect skin possible. Its big advantage is that it works instantly, and will remove any imperfections in the skin and spots within seconds.

The system runs a scan of your skin, that locates every single imperfection. It then sets about correcting each detected imperfection with mineral applications that match the color of your skin exactly.

Check out this video below to see how it works in real time.

Watching the Opté apply makeup looks like magic, its like photoshop in real time, just removing all the spots and making skin look clear.

Opté analyses the photos to pinpoint imperfections, then, it custom-creates a serum designed to hide those imperfections. Finally, a printer with 120 inkjet nozzles, each thinner than a hair, covers the spot precisely with 1,000 picoliter droplets. It all happens nearly instantaneously as you wave the wand over your skin.

Opté is also easier to use than traditional products, which take time and artistry to apply. With the Opté you just scan the Precision Wand across your skin and walk out the door.

Everything comes at a price, Opté wand will be available for $599 by the end of 2019.

What causes under eye darks circles, pigmentation and know the best treatment options - by Dr Sravani Sandhya , Aura Skin Clinic , Vizag.

Dark circles under the lower eyelids are common in men and women. Often accompanied by bags, dark circles can make you appear older than you are. While there are many causes including genes, stress, oversleeping and sleep deprivation, let us take a look at other factors that can lead to them.

Melanin: If you have not heard about melanin, you must have known about pigmentation. This happens when there is extra absorption of melanin under our eye which results in pigmentation. Consulting a dermatologist would be a quick relief. Usually, he would recommend dark circles under eyes cream as per your condition.

Sleep Deprivation: Oversleeping, extreme fatigue, or just staying up a few hours past your normal bedtime can cause dark circles to form under your eyes. Sleep deprivation can cause your skin to become dull and pale, allowing for dark tissues and blood vessels beneath your skin to show.

Fluid Retention: Sometimes, because of fluid retention, our skin around the eyes dome up. This causes puffiness and dark circles are a result of the shadows from the puffiness of eyes. There could be numerous reasons for puffiness such as allergies, high salt consumption, stress etc.

Age: Natural aging is another common cause of those dark circles beneath your eyes. As you get older, your skin becomes thinner. You also lose the fat and collagen needed to maintain your skin’s elasticity.

Thinner Skin: Did you know that the skin type differs from person to person? Those with thinner skin around the eyes are more susceptible to dark circles. Thankfully, we have treatment procedures to remove dark circle under eyes.

Dehydration:
Dehydration is a common cause of dark circles under your eyes. When your body is not receiving the proper amount of water, the skin beneath your eyes begins to look dull and your eyes look sunken.Drink lot of water to hydrate your skin .

Skin Sagging:
Individuals who reach a certain age start facing problem of sagging skin. However, premature aging of skin is also predominant among people who are in constant contact with sun. Overexposure to the sun can cause your body to produce an excess of melanin, the pigment that provides your skin with color. Too much sun particularly for your eyes can cause pigmentation in the surrounding skin to darken.Using sunscreen can help avoid this problem.

Genetics: Family history also plays a part in developing dark circles under your eyes. It can be an inherited trait seen early in childhood, and may worsen as you age or slowly disappear.

Iron Deficiency: Because of deficiency of iron, the blood that reaches the eyes lack proper amount of oxygen and the insufficient level of oxygen to the eye tissue cause them to look darker.

Treatment Options for Dark Circles & Pigmentation.

For a more effective and permanent solution, some medical treatments are available to reduce the appearance of dark circles. Some of the more common methods include:
  • chemical peels to reduce pigmentation
  • laser procedures to resurface the skin and enhance skin tightening
  • tissue fillers to conceal blood vessels and melanin that are causing skin discolouration under your eyes.
  • medical tattoos to inject pigment into thinning skin areas
  • fat removal to remove excess fat and skin, revealing a smoother and more even surface
Before deciding on any cosmetic procedure, discuss your options with our doctor and based on your condition we can prescribe the right treatment options.

Top 5 things a dermatologist should tell you this winter - By Dr Sravani Sandhya, Aura Skin & Hair Clinic, Visakhapatnam

Follow these 5 important tips, these are the most essential things you need do to keep your skin safe during cold winters.

winter skin care

1.) Stay Hydrated

Your skin will become drier and often more sensitive with the onset of colder weather, You need to keep your skin hydrated as the atmospheric air is drier in winters. An easy way to keep it hydrated is by drinking lots of water or swap your coffee for green tea which has great anti-oxidant effects. Though you might not feel as thirsty during winters as the other seasons but its good to maintain your regular water intake.

2.) Choose Skin Care Products Wisely

What kept your skin happy during summers can make it sad during winters. And that’s why you need to change your skin care products accordingly. The key to healthy and glowing winter skin is using mild skin care products.

Avoid masks and peels, astringent lotions, and any product that contains alcohol as they make your skin dry during winters.

3.) Consider professional skin treatments

“Winter is a great time of year for skin treatments. We always worry about peels and laser treatment in the summer months. With sun exposure before or after such procedures there is a higher risk of unwanted post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation. Autumn and winter therefore represents an opportunity.

4.) Protect Your Skin

The warm sun rays feel pleasant in winters, but the UV rays can damage your skin a lot. Choose a sunscreen that has titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. Also, avoid going outside immediately after you have washed your hands or after a shower.

5.) Always carry a Lip balm

Almost all of our dermatologists agree that chapped lips are a fact of life during winter, but by regularly applying a hydrating balm, they do what they can to stay ahead of the dryness."Lips become chapped because when people go out in the cold and don’t protect their lips, they tend to get wind burned,” Dr. Sravani Sandhya says.

7 Organic & Natural Skincare Tips - By Dr Sravani Sandhya , Dermatologist - Aura Skin & Hair Clinic, Vizag

Don’t skimp on rich, healthy ingredients this season, even if you are trying to slim down. I tell my patients that what they put in their mouths is as important as the products they apply on their skin" says Dr. Sravani Sandhya ( Dermatologist & Founder of Aura Skin and Hair Clinic). It's important to understand staying hydrated & eating whole foods contain tons of nutrients, phytochemical and enzymes that work synergistically to keep us healthy.Working out regularly and keeping your stress levels down can benefit your skin and hair. Here are 7 things you could adopt in your daily routine to get that natural glow on your skin.

1.) Keep yourself hydrated
First and foremost, drink a lot of water — eight glasses or more each day. You can also down some green tea for a boost of healthy antioxidants, Foods that contain mostly water can be just as hydrating for your skin as drinking H2O. Eat water-dense fruits and veggies such as watermelon, plums, peaches, cucumbers, bell peppers, and lettuce more often.

2.) Avoid too much direct sun exposure
Do not expose yourself for long hours to direct sun heat, as the direct sun heat for long hours causes ageing spots and wrinkles. Before going in to direct sun light, use a good sunscreen.

3.) Exercise regularly
Exercise daily till you start sweating. It opens up your skin pores and the toxins escape from your skin.

4.) Avoid smoking and too much of alcohol
In addition to increasing your risk for lung cancer and heart disease, smoking can also wreak havoc on your skin.Smoking causes your body to produce fewer red blood cells. And with fewer red blood cells your skin can start to lose its healthy glow.Smoking will seriously age you.

5.) Moisturizer
Do you moisturize your skin every day? If you don’t, you should. Both men and women can find many benefits to using high quality facial moisturizer every day.Moisturizing everyday can reduce the chance of developing extreme dryness or oiliness. Both extremes are harmful for skin and cause common skin conditions like acne. Moisturizing your face will help you to look and feel younger, you will have softer, more elastic skin, and it will keep your skin hydrated

6.) Avoid stress
Stress happens to everyone, but since you can't avoid your job, bills, or life, the best thing to do is learn to manage the stress.Even small stressors and anxieties can add up and negatively impact the quantity and quality of your sleep. Get at least eight hours of sleep. Since the light from your smartphone's screen simulates sunlight, shut off any electronic devices an hour before you go to sleep.

7.) Eat healthy natural food
Research is now showing that it’s possible to influence your looks simply by choosing specific foods.Eat natural foods & vegetables more often, avoid fast foods. You are what you eat, your skin and hair is a mirror of your inner well being.

Your Top 3 Laser Hair Removal Questions, Answered By Dr Sravani Sandhya, Aura Skin and Hair Clinic, Seethammadhara, Visakhaptanam

As Vizag city is turning cosmopolitan, frequency of cosmetic procedures have taken up. Laser hair removal is become one of the most common cosmetic procedures in India.

At Aura Skin Clinic we have advanced DIODE laser which is FDA approved and its always operated by a certified Dermatologist.

Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Hair Removal....?

How does it work ?
During laser hair removal, a laser beam passes through the skin to an individual hair follicle. The intense heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, which inhibits future hair growth.
How long does it take?
Some individuals will see very long term hair removal which may last for many years. Others may require maintenance treatments over time to maintain their degree of hair loss. It is truly impossible to determine in advance who will require how many treatments and how long the hair will remain gone. As stated above, laser hair removal works best in those with dark hairs on lighter skin, however newer technologies and newer lasers and light sources have made the procedure safe and effective in those with darker skin and those individuals of color.

How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal ?

Avoid deep tanning (tanning beds, tanning creams), four to six weeks prior to the treatment. If you must go in the sun, use a sunscreen SPF 25 or greater. We require that all patients to wet shave 24 hours prior to the appointed time for the hair to stay in the hair follicle.
Post-Treatment Instructions:

Immediately after the treatment there may be redness and bumps at the treatment site, which will last up to two hours or longer.

It is normal for the treated area to feel like sunburn for a few hours. You may use a cold compress, aloe-vera gel, or 1-% hydrocortisone if needed.

Makeup may be used after the treatment, just make sure that you have moisturizer on under your makeup. In fact moisturizer will help the dead hair exfoliate from the follicle so use moisturizer frequently and freely on the treated area.

Avoid sun exposure for four to six weeks after the treatment to reduce the chance of dark and light spots. Use sunscreen SPF 25 or greater at all times throughout the course of the treatment.

Do not use any other forms of hair removal methods or products on the treated area during the course of the laser treatment (tweezing, waxing and depilatories), as it will prevent you from achieving your best results. You may shave the area if needed.

Anywhere from five to fourteen days after the treatment, shedding of the hair may occur and this may appear as new hair growth. This is not new hair growth, but dead hair pushing its way out of the follicle.

It is important for you to let us know how long the redness has lasted after treatment when significant hair growth was noticed in the area. This information will help us to individualise treatment and achieve optimal results for you.

Excessive Sweating : Normal or Maybe Not - by Dr.Sravani Sandhya, Aura Skin and Hair Clinic

Sweating during a workout feels great but Sweating on a date or at the office? Not so much.

Sweating is a natural process, but it can turn dreadful if it goes out of hand. Sweating Excessively for no reason might be a cause for concern.

Hyperhidrosis, which is sweating in excess of that required for normal thermoregulation, is a condition that usually begins in either childhood or adolescence. It can be localized to a particular anatomical area, but the sites most commonly affected are the palms, soles, and axillae.
  •     Axillary  Hyperhidrosis : excess sweating of the  underarms.
  •    Palmoplantar  Hyperhidrosis : excess sweating of the palms and soles.

One treatment includes Botox. Contrary to popular notion, Botox is not just for face but is also helpful in treating Hyperhidrosis. Botox works by blocking the secretion of the chemical that activates sweat glands.

Four Tips To Control Sweating Naturally :

  •        Stay Calm and Yoga
  •        Drink a lot of Water
  •        Drink Milk
  •        Wear natural fibers
Untreated, these problems may continue throughout life. You can take comfort that you are not alone. With some planning and effort, you don't have to feel frustrated and embarrassed anymore.

For more details, consult with our experts at Aura Skin and Hair Clinic, Visakhapatnam .
