Winter Skin Care Tips by Dr Sravani Sandhya, Aura Skin Clinic, Visakhapatnam

After watching game of thrones we know what it is like to face winter. But we have good news for you!!!!

At aura skin and hair clinic we know how to combat this weather

DULL SKIN - Firstly what is dull skin?

Dull skin can make you look tired and old, even when you're well rested. When your skin has a layer of dead skin cells on the surface, your skin doesn't reflect light as it naturally would with new, healthy skin.

Causes

• Major causes of skin disorders can be stated as:
• Aging
• Exposure to the Sun
• Contact with allergens and irritants
• Food habits
• Hormonal Imbalance

Simple 5 Step skin routine you can follow to make your skin rejuvenate.

Step 1
Invest in a good quality exfoliating scrub that contains fruit acids, glycolic acid or abrasive beads that help slough away the dead cells on the surface of the skin. Dead skin cells don't reflect light well, instead making your skin look dry and dull. exfoliating once weekly will help to keep skin looking bright. Opt for a daily cleanser

Step 2
Apply an oil-free moisturizer several times daily. Dry skin can often take on a dull, chapped appearance that can make you look tired. Apply moisturizer each day, even if your skin doesn't feel dry. Look for one labeled "noncomedogenic" so you know it won't cause breakouts, even with frequent applications.

Step 3
Wear sunscreen every day. Sun damage can make your skin look discolored and dull, so it's important that a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or above for Indian skin to become part of your daily skin care regimen. If adding a sunscreen sounds like too much of a bother, look for a daily moisturizer with a built-in sunscreen to help streamline your morning routine.

Step 4
Wear a tinted moisturizer or tinted sunscreen instead of a thick and heavy foundation. A tinted sunscreen will help your skin's natural color and texture to shine through while adding light reflecting minerals to keep your skin looking bright. Heavy foundations and powders can dull the skin and give it a matte appearance, which can actually make you look older.

Step 5
Schedule an appointment with your dermatologist if lifestyle and cosmetic remedies don't seem to be helping your dull skin problem. Your dermatologist can suggest a number of skin care procedures to be done in the office to help speed skin cell turnover and reveal more youthful skin.
If you feel that your skin has gone dull or darker in shade and has developed blemishes, dark spot, acne, wrinkles or textural irregularities, you should consider choosing the Skin Rejuvenation. Your age, appearance, and style is completely your choice.

Enjoy Holi "The Festival of Colors" in a Safe Way. - Dr. Sravani, Aura Skin & Hair Clinic - Vizag

Holi is that one coloruful day of the year that we all look forward to. With all the Parties,  Bollywood music, delicious food. It’s that time of the year when you play with colours that add joy to your life.As much as we love this awesome festival of colours, we just hate the aftermath.

So, before you step out, make sure you have these checks in place. Here are a few tips that will help make your Holi a fun-filled, safe and colourful one.

1.) Use organic colours only:

Going the organic way is the new trend, and it’s time we stop using colours with chemicals. Organic colours are chemical-free, easy to wash off and so much gentler to your skin.

2.) Cover Up :

Always wear clothes that cover your body, to protect it from strong colours.

3.) Apply Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil is that one miracle product that’ll get you out of every kind of beauty dilemma.before you head out for the day, make sure to lather on your choice of coconut oil on your hair, as well as your body. It’ll make getting cleaned up twice as easy.

4.) Don’t wait for the colours to dry:

Once you’re home, don’t let the colours stay on for too long, take a shower immediately. Use a gentle shampoo to clean your hair, a soft face wash to wash your face and a non-alkaline cleanser to wash your body. It’ll leave your skin feeling clean and refreshed without over-drying it.

5.) Do not use abrasive scrubs or kerosine to wash colours off:

More often than not, it's not the colour that much, but the chemicals used in washing away those colours that damage the skin more.Have patience. It's not bad to let it show that you had played Holi the previous day. The residual colours will slowly fade.

6.) Sunscreen is good for you:

keep using the sunscreen for two more weeks after holi at frequent intervals. Your skin is likely to remain sensitive, especially for people who are known to have allergic conditions. If you develop a rash over the next couple of day, please visit your dermatologist as soon as possible.

7.) Stay Hydrated:

Dehydration causes skin to dry out and this, along with the added chemicals you’re dealing with on holi, can cause skin damage. As you will be spending most of the time outdoors in the sun, it’s always good to drink more water.

8.) Moisturise well:

Use a generous amount of moisturiser on your entire body after taking a shower. This will help get rid of roughness and make sure your skin stays glowing, all day long.

8 Tips For Beautiful Skin - Dr. Sravani, Aura Skin & Hair Clinic , Visakhapatnam

Watch Sun Exposure Indoors

Yes, you read it right: UV rays (in particular UVA rays) can penetrate the windows in your home and office and cause wrinkling and brown spots.

Consider Your Water

Apart from hydrating yourself by drinking water at regular intervals.water that is used to bathe is equally important…Hard water doesn’t allow washes to lather easily, prompting you to use more soap, which can cause dryness. (Gentle, nonsoap formulas, which aren’t meant to lather, can minimize this).

“Soft water doesn’t remove soap well, so it can leave a residue on your skin.(If your water is soft, use face and body cleansers sparingly).

Drink Green Tea

Since vizag is hot round the year. “Iced tea is best because hot beverages can worsen redness and other symptoms of rosacea.”

Another benefit: The epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in green tea may help prevent the collagen destruction that leads to wrinkles as well as sun-induced DNA damage in the skin .

Keep Stress in Check

It takes a toll on nearly every part of your body, including your skin. Acne, hair fall, rosacea, psoriasis etc etc.

Improve Your Air Quality

Avoiding smoky environments is smart, since “just being around smoke can lead to the release of free radicals that damage skin and hasten aging,”

Switch to Plain Toothpaste

Those with tartar-control ingredients or added flavors, like cinnamon, may contribute to a common skin condition called perioral dermatitis.

It looks like pimples, redness, and scaling around the mouth.

Choose Water-Based Hair Products

Some conditioners, as well as pomades, volumizers, and styling creams, contain oils or waxes that can clog pores and create acne, especially on the forehead, the back, and the hairline.

Sleep a Full Night

While you’re snoozing, the skin’s repair mechanisms swing into action. Being sleep-deprived, by contrast, puts stress on the body, causing it to release more adrenaline and cortisol, which can trigger breakouts and other skin

To keep that frazzled feeling under control, regularly practice stress-management techniques, like yoga, deep breathing, and meditation.

Can Women Go Bald - by Dr. Sravani, Aura Skin Clinic, Vizag

Can Women Go Bald & What is Female pattern baldness?
Female pattern baldness is the most common type of hair loss in women.

Causes

Each strand of hair sits in a tiny hole (cavity) in the skin called a follicle. In general, baldness occurs when the hair follicle shrinks over time, resulting in shorter and finer hair. Eventually, the follicle does not grow new hair. The follicles remain alive, which suggests that it is still possible to grow new hair.
The reason for female pattern baldness is not well understood, but may be related to:
  • Aging
  • Changes in the levels of androgens (male hormones). For example, after reaching menopause, many women find that the hair on their head is thinner, while the hair on their face is coarser.
  • Family history of male or female pattern baldness.

Symptoms

Hair thinning is different from that of male pattern baldness. In female pattern baldness:
  • Hair thins mainly on the top and crown of the scalp. It usually starts with a widening through the center hair part.
  • The front hairline remains unaffected except for normal recession, which happens to everyone as time passes.
  • The hair loss rarely progresses to total or near total baldness, as it may in men.
  • Itching or skin sores on the scalp are generally not seen.

Exams and Tests

Female pattern baldness is usually diagnosed based on:
  • Ruling out other causes of hair loss.
  • The appearance and pattern of hair loss.
  • Your medical history.
A dermatologist will examine you for other signs of too much male hormone (androgen), such as:
  • Abnormal new hair growth, such as on the face or between the belly button and pubic area
  • Changes in menstrual periods and enlargement of the clitoris
  • New acne
A skin biopsy of the scalp or blood tests may be used to diagnose skin disorders that cause hair loss.
Treatment
Untreated, hair loss in female pattern baldness is permanent. In most cases, hair loss is mild to moderate.
Medical management
The only medicine approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat female pattern baldness is minoxidil:
If minoxidil does not work, your provider may recommend other medicines.
Procedures like “Platelet rich plasma therapy”.
Hair transplant
Cosmetic management
Hair weaving, hairpieces, or a change in hairstyle can help hide hair loss and improve your appearance

Prognosis

female pattern baldness is usually not a sign of an underlying medical disorder.
Hair loss may affect self-esteem and cause anxiety.
Hair loss is usually permanent.
