Your Top 3 Laser Hair Removal Questions, Answered By Dr Sravani Sandhya, Aura Skin and Hair Clinic, Seethammadhara, Visakhaptanam

As Vizag city is turning cosmopolitan, frequency of cosmetic procedures have taken up. Laser hair removal is become one of the most common cosmetic procedures in India.

At Aura Skin Clinic we have advanced DIODE laser which is FDA approved and its always operated by a certified Dermatologist.

Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Hair Removal....?

How does it work ?
During laser hair removal, a laser beam passes through the skin to an individual hair follicle. The intense heat of the laser damages the hair follicle, which inhibits future hair growth.
How long does it take?
Some individuals will see very long term hair removal which may last for many years. Others may require maintenance treatments over time to maintain their degree of hair loss. It is truly impossible to determine in advance who will require how many treatments and how long the hair will remain gone. As stated above, laser hair removal works best in those with dark hairs on lighter skin, however newer technologies and newer lasers and light sources have made the procedure safe and effective in those with darker skin and those individuals of color.

How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal ?

Avoid deep tanning (tanning beds, tanning creams), four to six weeks prior to the treatment. If you must go in the sun, use a sunscreen SPF 25 or greater. We require that all patients to wet shave 24 hours prior to the appointed time for the hair to stay in the hair follicle.
Post-Treatment Instructions:

Immediately after the treatment there may be redness and bumps at the treatment site, which will last up to two hours or longer.

It is normal for the treated area to feel like sunburn for a few hours. You may use a cold compress, aloe-vera gel, or 1-% hydrocortisone if needed.

Makeup may be used after the treatment, just make sure that you have moisturizer on under your makeup. In fact moisturizer will help the dead hair exfoliate from the follicle so use moisturizer frequently and freely on the treated area.

Avoid sun exposure for four to six weeks after the treatment to reduce the chance of dark and light spots. Use sunscreen SPF 25 or greater at all times throughout the course of the treatment.

Do not use any other forms of hair removal methods or products on the treated area during the course of the laser treatment (tweezing, waxing and depilatories), as it will prevent you from achieving your best results. You may shave the area if needed.

Anywhere from five to fourteen days after the treatment, shedding of the hair may occur and this may appear as new hair growth. This is not new hair growth, but dead hair pushing its way out of the follicle.

It is important for you to let us know how long the redness has lasted after treatment when significant hair growth was noticed in the area. This information will help us to individualise treatment and achieve optimal results for you.

Here Comes The Sun, Are you using the right sunscreen. - By Dr Sravani Sandhya, Aura Skin and Hair Clinic

Have you ever wondered if the sunscreen you are using is really working. find out detailed info on how to choose the right sunscreen for your skin.

What is Sunscreen...?

Sunscreens are agents that alter the effects of uv radiation on skin by absorption or reflection of part of the incident radiation

There are different types of sunscreens available in the market and its always a difficult choice to make….

What are properties of sunscreen?

There are two properties in a sunscreen which you should look for SPF (sun protection factor) and substantivity

What are types of suncreens?

UVA sunscreens
UVB sunscreens
Broad spectrum sunscreen

So which sunscreen can I use?

Your sunscreen should be able to take care of two types of UV light that is both UVA and UVB. Which is a broad spectrum sunscreen.

What does a broad-spectrum sunscreen do?

There are two types of UV light that can harm your skin — UVA and UVB. A broad-spectrum, or full-spectrum, sunscreen is designed to protect you from both.

UVA rays can prematurely age your skin, causing wrinkling and age spots. UVB rays can burn your skin. Too much exposure to UVA or UVB rays can cause skin cancer. The best sunscreen offers protection from all UV light.

Only broad-spectrum sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or higher can claim to reduce the risk of skin cancer or prevent early skin aging.

What is SPF and how much SPF should I use?

SPF stands for sun protection factor, which is a measure of how well the sunscreen deflects UVB rays. Theoretically, a sunscreen with SPF15 provides 94% protection from UVB radiation and SPF30 provides 97% protection. Also, keep in mind that sunscreen is often not applied thoroughly or thickly enough, and it might be washed off during swimming or sweating. As a result, even the best sunscreen might be less effective than the SPF number on the bottle would lead you to believe.

Things to remember

Apply generous amounts of sunscreen to dry skin 30 minutes before you go outdoors.

Use sunscreen on all skin surfaces that will be exposed to sun, such as your face, ears, hands, arms and lips. If you don't have much hair on your head, apply sunscreen to the top of your head or wear a hat.

Reapply sunscreen every two hours — and immediately after swimming or heavy sweating.

Remember that sand, water, snow and concrete reflect sunlight and make it even more important to use sunscreen.

Since UV light can pass through clouds, use sunscreen even when it's cloudy.

You can apply sunscreen to children as young as age 6 months. Keep younger children in the shade as much as possible.

Use sunscreen year-round, but don't let any product lull you into a false sense of security about sun exposure. A combination of shade, clothing, sunscreen and common sense is your best bet.

Consult our Dermatologist for more info on sun protection and how to take good care of your skin this summer.

Excessive Sweating : Normal or Maybe Not - by Dr.Sravani Sandhya, Aura Skin and Hair Clinic

Sweating during a workout feels great but Sweating on a date or at the office? Not so much.

Sweating is a natural process, but it can turn dreadful if it goes out of hand. Sweating Excessively for no reason might be a cause for concern.

Hyperhidrosis, which is sweating in excess of that required for normal thermoregulation, is a condition that usually begins in either childhood or adolescence. It can be localized to a particular anatomical area, but the sites most commonly affected are the palms, soles, and axillae.
  •     Axillary  Hyperhidrosis : excess sweating of the  underarms.
  •    Palmoplantar  Hyperhidrosis : excess sweating of the palms and soles.

One treatment includes Botox. Contrary to popular notion, Botox is not just for face but is also helpful in treating Hyperhidrosis. Botox works by blocking the secretion of the chemical that activates sweat glands.

Four Tips To Control Sweating Naturally :

  •        Stay Calm and Yoga
  •        Drink a lot of Water
  •        Drink Milk
  •        Wear natural fibers
Untreated, these problems may continue throughout life. You can take comfort that you are not alone. With some planning and effort, you don't have to feel frustrated and embarrassed anymore.

Watermelon is an exceptionally healthy fruit which has a sweet and delicious taste, and is packed with water, making it excellent for maintaining good hydration. It is particularly refreshing on a hot summer day, and may be considered the ultimate summer fruit.

1. Hydrates and Moisturises Skin
Watermelon is 93% water. Dehydrated skin can lead to a dull and dry appearance, but watermelon helps to keep the skin hydrated and moisturised. This helps keep your skin supple and looking great.

2. Removes Dark Circles
Eating watermelon over a period of time, all the beta carotene of this fruit gets converted to Vitamin A. This not only helps in improving your eyesight but also helps in getting rid of those dark circles under your eyes and making your eyes more attractive.

3. Helps You Get Proper Beauty Sleep

When there is proper secretion of this sleeping hormone, your sleeping regulates and your body gets proper rest. And proper sleep is responsible in making your skin healthier.

4. Gives You Wonderful Glowing Skin
As watermelon contains anti-oxidants, it detoxes your body and skin. When these harmful toxins get removed from your skin, it naturally becomes brighter and healthier.

5. Natural Toner
Watermelon is a natural astringent which changes the appearance of your skin and makes it look better. This fruit contains natural contents which can shrink the body skin tissues which help in toning of the skin. This also reduces blemishes and acne problems.

6. Slows Down Aging Process
Free radicals present in the body can quicken aging process such as wrinkles, fine lines and age spots on your skin. Watermelon contains anti-oxidants such as Lycopene and Vitamin C and A which can fight off with these free radicals and decrease all kinds of skin aging.

The abundant Vitamin A present in the watermelon decreases the skin pore size and controls the oil secretions. So, if you want to get a cure for your oily skin, don’t forget to add this fruit to your diet.

The PERFECT Combination for a Youthful Skin - by Dr Sravani Sandhya , Aura Skin Clinic , Vizag

A lot of patients come to me asking for non surgical options for fine lines, wrinkles and scars. At Aura Skin and Hair Clinic Vishakhpatnam , we offer many options for skin rejuvenation that, when performed alone, can give you superior results.

However, some of our treatments can be performed together to take your appearance to the next level, restoring the fresh, youthful skin that you are searching for. So what is the best combination of laser and injectable treatments for you?

We think it’s the Fraxel LaserJuvederm and Botox.

THE FRAXEL RESTORE DUAL LASER
  • How it works – It’s a laser treatment that has the ability to penetrate deeply into the dermis without burning or destroying the skin’s outer layer. The heat from the laser stimulates your body’s natural collagen production, which will gradually repair damage and improve skin tone and texture.
  • What it treats – Sun damage, fine lines, skin texture issues, acne scars.
Treatment – A topical anesthetic is applied to clean skin, and most treatments last about 30 minutes. Depending on the conditions you’re treating, it may take three to six sessions to achieve the results you desire.
  • Recovery – There is little to no downtime after your Fraxel treatment, and the only side effects are mild swelling and redness, similar to the feeling of a sunburn. Any flaking or peeling is normal, and it is important to follow  care instructions to avoid scarring or damage to your skin.
  • Results – Because the results of Fraxel laser treatments depend on your body’s collagen production, it usually takes up to six months to see results after each session. For optimal results, you should stick with your treatment schedule and be patient while your body works its magic.

JUVEDERM FACIAL FILLER
  • How it works – Juvederm uses a form of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a molecule found naturally in the human body. It binds to water, smoothing lines, filling wrinkles, and using its own natural ability to give you youthful-looking skin and plumped up lips and cheeks.
  • What it treats – Facial lines, under eye hollows, acne scars, loss of volume in the lips, high cheek bones, arched eyebrows.
  • Treatment – Injections are quick and virtually painless, as the Juvederm formulation contains a mild anesthetic.
  • Recovery – There is no downtime required, and side effects are mild and minimal. They may include minor swelling, bruising or redness at the injection site.
  • Results – While you will immediately notice some results, the final effects aren’t typically visible until about two weeks post-treatment.

BOTOX COSMETIC
  • How it works – Botox is used to treat active (or dynamic) wrinkles. These are wrinkles that are a result of repetitive facial movements, like smiling, frowning or squinting. Botox contains a neurotoxin that causes temporary paralysis in the muscles responsible for active expressions. This keeps your forehead smooth, and with continued use, can prevent new wrinkles from forming.
  • What it treats – Forehead lines, frown lines, crows feet.
  • Treatment – Botox is a quick and virtually painless injectable procedure.
  • Recovery – There is no downtime after Botox injections, and side effects (if any) are temporary. These may include mild redness or swelling.
  • Results – Results of Botox are typically visible within about five days after treatment, but final results may take up to two weeks.

Depending on the extent of your skin damage, combining Fraxel laser treatments, Juvederm and Botox can offer facial rejuvenation results that are superior to those found with only one of these treatments. Because each treatment addresses a different type of issue, combining them can offer a comprehensive treatment that promises to take years off of your appearance.

Combining these three treatments is safe, and they can be performed together in one session, or at least spaced closely together. Most providers choose to perform the laser treatment first, as it is unknown whether the laser energy causes the filler material to break down and affect your results. There is no danger of interaction between Botox and Juvederm ingredients, and overall, your results leave you looking youthful and beautiful.

If you are looking for a safe and non-invasive alternative to a surgical facelift, or simply a way to refresh your appearance while still looking natural, call us now +91 9177799077 to schedule a consultation and let us help you find the perfect combination of treatments for you skin.

Why PRP is the best choice for Hair Restoration - by Dr Sravani Sandhya - Aura Skin Clinic, Visakhapatnam

WHY PRP IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR HAIR RESTORATION

Whether man or woman, everyone can be affected by thinning hair. No one is truly immune from thinning hair – everyone from Prince William to Prince Mahesh babu suffer from varying degrees of hair loss, as do several other notable male stars.

Hair loss also affects women, even those with ready access to professional  hairstylists and the latest and most innovative techniques to combat or hide thinning hair. Fortunately, advancements in hair restoration have brought about a variety of ways to give back the confidence that may be receding along with your hairline. There are several minimally invasive transplant options available, but if you aren’t quite ready to go that route, platelet rich plasma therapy may be the answer.

HOW PRP WORKS

Platelet rich plasma therapy (PRP) is a treatment that has been used in a number of ways, but recent research shows that this therapy has been found to be a promising option for hair loss, with the ability stimulate inactive hair follicles into growing again. This means that it only works where there is existing hair – if there is no hair follicle, PRP cannot encourage growth. This combination of platelets and plasma contains stimulating growth factors that can boost hair growth and strengthen existing healthy follicles.

PRP FOR HAIR LOSS AT AURA SKIN AND HAIR CLINIC

The main advantages of PRP are that it is a minimally invasive procedure that is virtually painless and requires no downtime for recovery.Additionally, because PRP treatments use the patient’s own blood, thereare no risks of side effects or rejection.

When you choose PRP to address thinning hair and come in for your treatment, we will extract a small amount of your blood. The blood is then processed through a centrifuge, separating the platelet rich plasma from the other cells in your blood sample. The PRP that is obtained is then carefully injected into the area on your scalp designated for treatment. It’s a short, virtually painless procedure done right in our office, and offers very few side effects.

Post-procedure, there are no restrictions – you can return to normal activities and even shower and wash your hair. You may notice a mild sensation of heat in the treatment area, similar to a sunburn, but this is temporary and resolves quickly. For optimal results, you may need more than one treatment session, which is something that you and doctor will
discuss when formulating your individualized treatment plan.

Results aren’t immediately visible, but you will start to see a gradual change in your hair as the growth factors do their job. Within two to six months, your hair will begin to look thicker and you’ll be able to see noticeable, positive results. If hair thinning or hairloss is causing you to struggle with confidence or self-esteem and you’re ready to try a non-invasive method of hair restoration, PRP therapy may be the solution.

Call Aura Skin & Hair Clinic 9177799077 to schedule a consultation and discover how you can naturally rejuvenate your hair.

6 Beauty Benefits of Potatoes for Hair & Skin, Aura Skin Clinic, Vizag

Potatoes are not just for cooking French fries or chips; they also have numerous health benefits. Here are some of the health benefits of potatoes in enhancing your appearance:

1.) Eliminate your dark circles below your eyes
To use potato as a lightener for dark circles, simply slice the potato in sections. Get a chilled washcloth and cover the potatoes with it. Afterwards close your eyes and put the potatoes over the dark circles. Let it sit for about 20 minutes and then wash with water.
2.)De-Puffer
If you are out of cucumbers, use potatoes to lessen the inflammation of your eyes. Simply slice the potatoes in a thin size and put it in the refrigerator for a several minutes. Then put over your eyes to de-puff them and feel how relieving it is.
3.) Anti-Wrinkles
Get the extract from the potato using a squeezer or a juicer. Then immerse a cotton ball with the extract and put it on your wrinkled part.
4.)Acne Combatant
Use potato juice like a toner. Just soak a cotton ball and apply all over your face. You can also use a Q-tip and start applying on the blemishes.
5.)Sunburn Remedy
Slice some potatoes and put them in the freezer for a few minutes. Once cold, place the slices on the sunburns. An alternative is to use potato juice, which you will simply apply directly onto the sunburns, which will give you a soothing and cooling feeling.
6.)Skin Lightener
Potatoes are really natural whiteners. One solution to use them is to shred the potato and put it as a mask on your face. Wash after 30 minutes. Another procedure is to mix lemon and potato, a mixture that can effectively lighten your skin as it works as a gentle bleaching agent.

While there are several discussions about potatoes being a nutritious food, there’s no hesitation that they have real benefits for our bodies – even for non-beauty motivations. It all relies on how you prepare the root crop.
