Honey’s often thought of as a healthier sweetener, but you might be surprised to learn that this ingredient has tons of skin and hair benefits, it’s loaded with antioxidants, nutrients  and healing compounds. Here are a few ways to put the ingredient to use .

1.) Pore Cleanser
The enzymes in raw honey clarify skin and keep pores clear and clean. Plus, the antibacterial properties of honey and jojoba or coconut oil also prevent bacterial buildup that can lead to skin imbalances and breakouts.
How To Use- Stir one tablespoon raw honey with two tablespoons jojoba oil or coconut oil until the mixture is the spreadable consistency. Apply to clean, dry skin, and massage gently in a circular motion, avoiding your eye area. Rinse with tepid water.
2.) Acne Treatment
Honey contains anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that thwart bacteria that can lead to breakouts. Its anti-inflammatory properties will calm redness and irritation.
How To Use- Apply a dab of raw honey to affected areas, and sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with tepid water.
3.) Moisturizing Mask
Honey is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air into the skin and ensures it’s retained it in the layers where it’s needed most for penetrating long-lasting hydration.
How To Use- Spread one teaspoon raw honey on clean, dry skin, and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with tepid water.
4.) Gentle Exfoliator
Honey is loaded with antioxidants, enzymes, and other nutrients that nourish, cleanse, and hydrate skin. Baking soda, meanwhile, is a gentle natural exfoliator that removes dead skin cells, allowing new cells to emerge for a radiant complexion.

Here Comes The Sun, Are you using the right sunscreen. - By Dr Sravani Sandhya, Aura Skin and Hair Clinic

Have you ever wondered if the sunscreen you are using is really working. find out detailed info on how to choose the right sunscreen for your skin.

What is Sunscreen...?

Sunscreens are agents that alter the effects of uv radiation on skin by absorption or reflection of part of the incident radiation

There are different types of sunscreens available in the market and its always a difficult choice to make….

What are properties of sunscreen?

There are two properties in a sunscreen which you should look for SPF (sun protection factor) and substantivity

What are types of suncreens?

UVA sunscreens
UVB sunscreens
Broad spectrum sunscreen

So which sunscreen can I use?

Your sunscreen should be able to take care of two types of UV light that is both UVA and UVB. Which is a broad spectrum sunscreen.

What does a broad-spectrum sunscreen do?

There are two types of UV light that can harm your skin — UVA and UVB. A broad-spectrum, or full-spectrum, sunscreen is designed to protect you from both.

UVA rays can prematurely age your skin, causing wrinkling and age spots. UVB rays can burn your skin. Too much exposure to UVA or UVB rays can cause skin cancer. The best sunscreen offers protection from all UV light.

Only broad-spectrum sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or higher can claim to reduce the risk of skin cancer or prevent early skin aging.

What is SPF and how much SPF should I use?

SPF stands for sun protection factor, which is a measure of how well the sunscreen deflects UVB rays. Theoretically, a sunscreen with SPF15 provides 94% protection from UVB radiation and SPF30 provides 97% protection. Also, keep in mind that sunscreen is often not applied thoroughly or thickly enough, and it might be washed off during swimming or sweating. As a result, even the best sunscreen might be less effective than the SPF number on the bottle would lead you to believe.

Things to remember

Apply generous amounts of sunscreen to dry skin 30 minutes before you go outdoors.

Use sunscreen on all skin surfaces that will be exposed to sun, such as your face, ears, hands, arms and lips. If you don't have much hair on your head, apply sunscreen to the top of your head or wear a hat.

Reapply sunscreen every two hours — and immediately after swimming or heavy sweating.

Remember that sand, water, snow and concrete reflect sunlight and make it even more important to use sunscreen.

Since UV light can pass through clouds, use sunscreen even when it's cloudy.

You can apply sunscreen to children as young as age 6 months. Keep younger children in the shade as much as possible.

Use sunscreen year-round, but don't let any product lull you into a false sense of security about sun exposure. A combination of shade, clothing, sunscreen and common sense is your best bet.

Consult our Dermatologist for more info on sun protection and how to take good care of your skin this summer.

6 Beauty Benefits of Potatoes for Hair & Skin, Aura Skin Clinic, Vizag

Potatoes are not just for cooking French fries or chips; they also have numerous health benefits. Here are some of the health benefits of potatoes in enhancing your appearance:

1.) Eliminate your dark circles below your eyes
To use potato as a lightener for dark circles, simply slice the potato in sections. Get a chilled washcloth and cover the potatoes with it. Afterwards close your eyes and put the potatoes over the dark circles. Let it sit for about 20 minutes and then wash with water.
2.)De-Puffer
If you are out of cucumbers, use potatoes to lessen the inflammation of your eyes. Simply slice the potatoes in a thin size and put it in the refrigerator for a several minutes. Then put over your eyes to de-puff them and feel how relieving it is.
3.) Anti-Wrinkles
Get the extract from the potato using a squeezer or a juicer. Then immerse a cotton ball with the extract and put it on your wrinkled part.
4.)Acne Combatant
Use potato juice like a toner. Just soak a cotton ball and apply all over your face. You can also use a Q-tip and start applying on the blemishes.
5.)Sunburn Remedy
Slice some potatoes and put them in the freezer for a few minutes. Once cold, place the slices on the sunburns. An alternative is to use potato juice, which you will simply apply directly onto the sunburns, which will give you a soothing and cooling feeling.
6.)Skin Lightener
Potatoes are really natural whiteners. One solution to use them is to shred the potato and put it as a mask on your face. Wash after 30 minutes. Another procedure is to mix lemon and potato, a mixture that can effectively lighten your skin as it works as a gentle bleaching agent.

While there are several discussions about potatoes being a nutritious food, there’s no hesitation that they have real benefits for our bodies – even for non-beauty motivations. It all relies on how you prepare the root crop.

8 Tips For Beautiful Skin - Dr. Sravani, Aura Skin & Hair Clinic , Visakhapatnam

Watch Sun Exposure Indoors

Yes, you read it right: UV rays (in particular UVA rays) can penetrate the windows in your home and office and cause wrinkling and brown spots.

Consider Your Water

Apart from hydrating yourself by drinking water at regular intervals.water that is used to bathe is equally important…Hard water doesn’t allow washes to lather easily, prompting you to use more soap, which can cause dryness. (Gentle, nonsoap formulas, which aren’t meant to lather, can minimize this).

“Soft water doesn’t remove soap well, so it can leave a residue on your skin.(If your water is soft, use face and body cleansers sparingly).

Drink Green Tea

Since vizag is hot round the year. “Iced tea is best because hot beverages can worsen redness and other symptoms of rosacea.”

Another benefit: The epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in green tea may help prevent the collagen destruction that leads to wrinkles as well as sun-induced DNA damage in the skin .

Keep Stress in Check

It takes a toll on nearly every part of your body, including your skin. Acne, hair fall, rosacea, psoriasis etc etc.

Improve Your Air Quality

Avoiding smoky environments is smart, since “just being around smoke can lead to the release of free radicals that damage skin and hasten aging,”

Switch to Plain Toothpaste

Those with tartar-control ingredients or added flavors, like cinnamon, may contribute to a common skin condition called perioral dermatitis.

It looks like pimples, redness, and scaling around the mouth.

Choose Water-Based Hair Products

Some conditioners, as well as pomades, volumizers, and styling creams, contain oils or waxes that can clog pores and create acne, especially on the forehead, the back, and the hairline.

Sleep a Full Night

While you’re snoozing, the skin’s repair mechanisms swing into action. Being sleep-deprived, by contrast, puts stress on the body, causing it to release more adrenaline and cortisol, which can trigger breakouts and other skin

To keep that frazzled feeling under control, regularly practice stress-management techniques, like yoga, deep breathing, and meditation.

Exfoliate to reduce acne and get smooth skin - Aura Skin Clinic , Vizag

Does your skin look dull?  Does a cloud of white particles fly into the area when you peel off your jeans? Both are good signs that you can use more exfoliation in your skin routine, both on your face and on your body.

Exfoliation is an important part of professional facials and body treatments. If you really want smooth skin, get rid of the dead, flaky skin on the surface. "It's a myth that exfoliation can dry or thin the skin," says skin care expert and Aura Skin Clinic dermatologist, Dr. Sravani. "Regular exfoliation speeds up the cell turnover process, allowing the body to produce moisture-bearing properties like hyaluronic acid. Exfoliation also helps to plump the skin by churning up elastin and collagen production."

Why Exfoliation is important...?

The skin is constantly generating new skin cells at the lower layer (the dermis) and sending them to the surface (the epidermis). As the cells rise to the surface they gradually die and become filled with keratin. These keratinized skin cells are essential because they give our skin its protective quality.

As we age the process of cell turnover slows down. Cells start to pile up unevenly on the skin's surface, giving it a dry, rough, dull appearance. Exfoliation is beneficial because it removes those cells that are clinging on, revealing the fresher, younger skin cells below.

Dr. Sravani recommends using a natural resurfacing agent such as glycolic acid to gently dissolve dead surface skin cells so they can be replaced with new, plump ones.Exfoliating is important, but it must be with a glycolic exfoliant gentle enough to be able to use daily (yet still effective!) because the dulling dead cells re-accumulate each day."

Common Mistakes While Self Treating Acne by Dr Sravani - Aura Skin Clinic , Vizag

Here are a few common mistakes people make when self treating acne.

Over – washing. A couple of times a day is normal and as long as you use warm (not hot) water, you’re maintaining a healthy skin barrier.

Using too-strong medications. The high % benzoyl peroxides can easily irritate what is already sensitive skin. Stay on the low end. If you think you need 10%, then it’s time to see a dermatologist.

Using the wrong exfoliant. Those crushed shell products? Throw them out. They make little cuts in your skin and can spread infections. Exfoliants with microbeads are better. Or use a clean washcloth.

Popping without prep. You can buy extractors or pull out a needle, but unless you prep first, you can make matters worse. Rule #1: If the head of your pimple isn’t white, leave it alone. Prep by cleaning your hands, your skin, warming the pimple and sterilizing your pimple and extractor with alcohol.
Use gauze to cover your finger tips. Press up and in from the sides. If at first you don’t succeed, don’t “try try again”.

Forgetting to wash your hands throughout the day. (Applies to phones – wipe them down once a day with an alcohol wipe or screen cleaner.)

Delaying needed medical care. Not seeing a dermatologist when your acne is uncontrolled. Don’t wait to get professional treatment and acne care products. If your acne is more than the occasional pimple, taking steps early can save you years of misery and prevent scarring that can last a lifetime.
